Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings

advertisement

Sectional Committee B16 was formed in 1920 by the American Engineering Standards Committee [becoming the American Standards Associations (ASA)] to unify and produce standards for pipe flanges and fittings (and later for valves and gaskets). ASME, the Heating and Piping Contractors National Association [now the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA)], and the Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valves and Fittings Industry were all co-sponsors of the B16 Committee (MSS). Cosponsoring organizations were eventually renamed secretariat organizations.

The Standard's use revealed the necessity for companion flange hub measurements as well as other adjustments, such as the re-rating of 250-lb and 1,350-lb flanges and the invention of flanged fittings with integral bases. The factors that determine the rigidity of flanges and flange hubs were investigated. ASA B16E-1932 was assigned to the updated edition.
