Introduction:

This book is an improved English version of the 2015 edition in Italian, and a radical review and update of the first studies carried out by the Author in Argentina, published in Spain in 1992. The Author’s scope is to fill some gaps in the literature about wind turbines, since most of it addresses the design challenges of big machines (i.e., bigger than 16m in diameter) and the economical optimization of onshore or offshore wind farms. There is a wide array of specific texts on small wind turbines available, but they are mainly do-it-yourself manuals, just valid for assembling a given model, definitely not universally applicable to any site and user requirements.
