Design of Hydrodynamic Machines

advertisement

Pumps and Hydro-Turbines is intended as a textbook for both upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. Primarily it is intended for students enrolled in mechanical, civil, and aerospace engineering programs. However, students in other programs such as chemical engineering and manufacturing and design engineering will also find it useful.

Most turbomachinery books cover a wide range of machines, such as pumps, fans, compressors, turbines (steam/gas and hydro), and wind turbines. Because of the wide range of coverage, there is limited space to go into the topics in detail. This text-book tries to address this shortcoming. It focuses on hydrodynamic machines, mainly pumps and hydro-turbines. The design and use of conventional types of hydrodynamic machines used in power generation, industrial processes, utilities, and oil and gas industry are covered in detail. The book gives detailed, easy-to-follow guidance on how to perform hydraulic design of important components of these machines; how to establish performance characteristics; and the procedures for testing and evaluation of these machines. The book also describes cavitation and its effects on the performance of a hydrodynamic machine. It presents methods of designing the suction side of the piping system to prevent cavitation.
