Cavitation in pumps:

It is rapid creation and subsequent collapse of air bubbles in the fluid.
When net positive suction head available (NPSHa) is lower then net Positive suction head required (NPSHr) cavitation will be occur

- The inlet or suction side of the pump is the point of lower pressure in a given pump.
- Fluid is drawn to the eye of the impeller and the rotation of the impeller begins to act of the fluid.
- When the pressure acting on the is too low the bubbles form and as the liquid accelerates because of the impeller rotation, pressure increases and the bubbles collapse.
