PIPING ENGINEERING NOTES

In 2012, the SCENE detector was designed and installed at Fermilab's PAB building. Since then, it has been running satisfactorily using liquid argon. This article was revised in 2014 for Rev 3 to run with liquid xenon. The design pressure stays constant, but the temperature has risen to 170 degrees Celsius. There are no design adjustments required. Appendix E was introduced at this time to ensure that the Pressure Relieving Device is also suited for these conditions. Section 11.0 now includes a note to that effect.

The P&ID in Appendix A was altered, but only in the warm piping. PPD-10120 is a pressure vessel that has been added. It already has the PPD sticker and is U-stamped. Everything else stayed the same. The inner vessel was updated in December 2016 for Rev 4 of this document.

The original design's 4" diameter vessel was replaced by a 6" diameter vessel. A differential pressure transducer was also installed between the inner vessel and the condenser. These modifications are specified in new Sections 7.2, 7.3, 8.2, and 8.3, as well as new P&ID specific to those sections. In addition, a paragraph was added to Section 11.0 to validate that the original pressure relief is still properly sized for the new inner vessel.
